Echoes of Kangchejunga

a film by

JAKUB CHLOUBA

Tucked beneath Kangchenjunga, Five Treasures of Snow in Tibetan, a mountain the Tibetan Buddhist communities of the high valleys consider a living guardian, life moves according to rhythms that have endured for generations. Nomadic yak herders moving with the seasons. Buddhist monks at prayer. Traditional weaving and dance that exists only in living memory. In 2025, filmmaker Jakub Chlouba went solo into this region with a single local guide. Trusting instinct over language, he found himself drawn toward a visual portrait rather than a traditional documentary structure, a mosaic of faces and moments. What the mountains offered was almost entirely elders. The young were elsewhere. That absence speaks for itself. The film carries the feeling of that encounter, the longing of a generation that wants to be heard, to pass something on, before the thread breaks. This is Jakub's first approach to this place and its people. His intention is to return, to go deeper, and eventually to make the feature this culture deserves.
